Santa Clara residents know that there’s no substitute when it comes to entertainment for a home-team game at any of the local sports venues. Northern California's Bay Area fans have long been protective and proprietary about their franchises. In return the teams have won the continued enthusiasm with pennants, championship appearances, and entertainment over the years. Whether you are a fan of Major (or Minor) League Baseball, Basketball, Soccer, Football, Arena Football, or even Rollerblading and Professional cycling events, the Bay Area professional sports teams always deliver.

Santa Clara is well known as the training center for the legendary San Francisco 49ers. The team has been housed in Santa Clara for many years and will move in 2012 to the NFL’s newest and most advanced stadium. Although the site is not open to the public, 49er fans can check it out to see where their team spends its time.

The San Jose Sharks have been a South Bay institution since their move to their South Bay home in 1993 (only 2 years after the team began). This National Hockey League team has been a longtime contender in the Stanley Cup Playoff Tournaments. Playing at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, known throughout the NHL and locally as the “Shark Tank”, the Sharks are a Santa Clara and South Bay favorite and draw record selling crowds. The games themselves are known in particular for the enthusiastic crowd and the team’s consistently high performance each year.

The Bay Area is known throughout the country for its two professional football teams. The San Francisco 49ers and the Oakland Raiders have each earned a reputation for their sporting spirit and excellence on the field over the years. They have the unflagging support of their fans. The two teams have recently hinted that they may be willing to share stadium space in the proposed new 49ers stadium in Santa Clara.

Also legendary in the country’s sports scene are the two Bay Area professional baseball teams. The San Francisco Giants and the Oakland A’s, much like their NFL counterparts, represent two different geographical areas of the Bay Area and have polarized baseball fans in the area for years. The World Championship San Francisco Giants also maintain their minor league baseball franchise in San Jose, and these San Jose Giants games are a sports fan’s dream come true when it comes to smaller-venue but still high caliber baseball match-ups.

The South Bay is also known for its professional soccer team, the San Jose Earthquakes. Because of the enormous fan base that soccer has in the Bay Area (the South Bay in particular) the games are very well attended. With two professional indoor/arena football teams (the San Jose Wolves and the San Jose Sabercats), the Golden State Warriors in the nearby East Bay, and a wide variety of alternative sports events like Roller Derby from the Silicon Valley Roller Girls, Santa Clara residents and visitors are sure to find a sporting event to fit any taste.

San Jose SaberCats – 600 E. Brokaw Rd., San Jose, CA 95126
