Workshop Description
In this hands-on workshop, Mohammed will deliver a full-day session on Spark, a fast general-purpose framework for large-scale data analysis. Today, many organizations are switching from Hadoop MapReduce to Spark, making Spark one of the hottest open-source big data related projects. In the first session of the two-part workshop, attendees will learn about Spark and Spark libraries, including Spark SQL, Spark Streaming and Spark MLlib. Attendees will also learn Scala, a popular functional programming language commonly used for writing Spark applications. The afternoon session is a hands-on session, where attendees will get the opportunity to do different types of data analysis, using Scala, Spark and Spark libraries on personal laptops.

About the Speaker
Mohammed Guller is the principal architect for Glassbeam. His expertise is in big data, analytics and cloud-based products. He has more than 18 years of experience leading the development of several products from concept to release. Prior to joining Glassbeam, Mohammed was the founder of TrustRecs, a social recommendation application, and a former client executive at IBM. Mohammed has an MBA from University of California, Berkeley.
